East Boston Reservoir is completed.
1851
One of several reservoirs built to supply “high water service” to the newly annexed towns, it holds 5.5 million gallons. It is used only occasionally by 1900 and closed in 1917. The property is taken by the city and the site becomes a playground designed by the Olmsted Brothers, then the site of a new high school in 1926.*
